What TOEFL iBT costs in Ethiopia

We register students for TOEFL every week and see the live Ethiopia price each time. Tell us your intake and we will quote the current figure and book the seat for you.
While the test fee itself is national, these charges are the same wherever you sit TOEFL — and they are the ones that catch Ethiopian students out, because they are paid in US dollars on top of the registration fee.
| Charge | Fee | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Rescheduling your test date | US$69 | Must be done at least four days before the test. |
| Express (late) registration | US$49 | Charged when you book within 7 days of the test date. |
| Additional score report | US$29 | Per institution, on top of the four free reports included. |
Four score reports are included with your registration if you nominate the institutions before you sit the test. Choosing them at registration rather than afterwards is the easiest US$116 an applicant to four universities can save.
Almost every university that accepts one now accepts the other, so this is a practical decision about access, cost and your own strengths. Compare the details on our IELTS test dates and fees in Ethiopia page, or consider the cheaper Duolingo English Test where your universities accept it.
TOEFL iBT in Ethiopia is delivered at ETS-authorised test centres in Addis Ababa. There is no British Council-style regional network for TOEFL, so students from Hawassa, Bahir Dar, Mekelle, Dire Dawa or Jimma should budget for travel and accommodation — or consider IELTS, which has centres closer to home.
Capacity is the real constraint. Addis Ababa has a limited number of seats per sitting and they are taken first during the September–January application peak. Booking four to six weeks ahead is not caution, it is the normal lead time.
ETS makes the at-home version available on a country-by-country basis and the list changes. Do not build your timeline around it until you have confirmed on the ETS registration system that it is offered for Ethiopia on your date. If you need a test you can definitely take from home, the Duolingo English Test is the reliable option from Ethiopia.
Whichever you take, bring the passport you registered with. Name mismatches between your registration, your passport and your academic transcripts are the most common reason a candidate is turned away at the door.
Register your name exactly as it appears on your passport. This cannot be casually corrected later and a mismatch invalidates your result.
The system then shows the test centres, the available dates and — at this point, not before — the exact fee that applies to you.
That covers results processing, score delivery and, if needed, a retake. Booking within seven days of the test adds the US$49 express fee.
Add every university you intend to apply to now. Reports requested after the test cost US$29 each.
ETS charges in US dollars. Many Ethiopian cards cannot complete the payment — Maraki handles this for our students, which is the single most common reason people ask us to book on their behalf.
Typical total scores out of 120 at the destinations Maraki places students in. Individual programmes set their own minimums, and competitive courses often add per-section requirements.
Scores normally appear in your ETS account about four to eight days after the test, with official reports reaching institutions shortly after that. Plan on two weeks end to end when you are working backwards from a university deadline.
Score reports go directly from ETS to the institution — a screenshot or PDF you send yourself is not accepted. That is why nominating your four recipients at registration matters so much.
TOEFL scores are valid for two years from the test date. MyBest Scores, which combine your best section scores across tests taken in that window, are accepted by some universities and not others; check before you rely on them.
